Background remover help

The background remover separates the main subject from the background in your browser, then lets you export the result as a transparent PNG or with a new solid background color.

How It Works

After you select an image, your browser loads the background-removal model files and runs the cutout process on your device. The preview shows the detected subject before you choose an export style.

Supported File Types

Use common browser-readable image files such as PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP. Very large images, unusual color profiles, animated files, or files your browser cannot decode may fail or take longer to process.

Local Processing And Privacy

PixTools does not require an account and does not upload your selected image to a PixTools server for background removal. Your browser may download model files, and your exported image is created locally by the browser download flow.

Export Options

Choose a transparent PNG when you need a cutout for design tools, product listings, or layered graphics. Use white, black, or a custom solid color when you need a finished image with a simple replacement background.

Quality Tips

Start with a sharp, well-lit image where the subject is not heavily blurred or hidden by a busy background. Higher contrast between the subject and the background usually produces cleaner edges.

Troubleshooting

If processing fails, try a smaller image, refresh the page, or use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. If the download does not appear, check your browser download settings and pop-up rules.

Limitations

Automatic background removal can miss hair, glass, shadows, thin objects, transparent items, and images where the subject blends into the background. Review the export before publishing or sending it to clients.

FAQ

Do I need an account?

No. The current background remover runs without a PixTools account.

Is the exported file always transparent?

No. You can export a transparent PNG or place the cutout on a white, black, or custom color background.

Why does the first run take longer?

Your browser may need to download model files before it can process the first image.

Can I get help with a bug?

Yes. Send the browser, image type, and what happened through the contact page. Do not email private images unless you are comfortable sharing them.
